  • Hotel with private pool - Nobus Hotel & Spa
    Vlora › Vlorë
The stunning Nobus Hotel & Spa is exactly the kind of place we’d pick for a few lazy days on Albania’s increasingly glamorous Riviera. Set south of Vlorë, the hotel looks straight across the sea, with a panoramic main pool, private beach area, spa and a Mediterranean restaurant that makes excellent use of local ingredients. Several room categories come with a private pool, including doubles and larger Deluxe Suites for families. We particularly like how compact everything feels here – pool, sea, dinner, spa, repeat. Add a cocktail from the lounge bar as the sun goes down and there’s really not much reason to be anywhere else. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - Meliá Durrës Albania
    Durrës › Draç
Meliá Durrës is Albania doing the big Mediterranean resort thing properly. Set beside the beach at Gjiri i Lalëzit, it has an enormous 138-metre main pool, rooftop infinity pools, Splash Park, Bamboo Spa and enough restaurants and bars to make choosing dinner an activity in itself. For true privacy, ignore the rooms with direct access to shared infinity pools and look for The Level Suite Villa: 160 m², two bedrooms, a garden and its own private swimming pool. We’d choose this one for families who want plenty happening around them – but still somewhere completely private to disappear to afterwards. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - Folie Marine Hotel & Beach Club
    Jal
Folie Marine isn’t really about quiet evenings with a book – and that’s precisely the attraction. Sitting on gorgeous Jal Beach, it mixes crystal-clear Ionian water with a full-blown beach-club atmosphere, DJs, live music, pool parties and restaurants ranging from sushi at Prive to Italian and traditional Albanian cooking. The Premier Jacuzzi Room adds a surprisingly private side to the experience, with both a hot tub and private pool. We’d come here with friends, swim all afternoon, dress up for dinner and accept that bedtime may be considerably later than planned. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - DREAM HOTEL SARANDA
    Saranda › Sarandë
Dream Hotel proves that a private-pool stay in Sarandë doesn’t have to mean booking a huge resort. This compact hotel sits close to Sarandë Main Beach and the waterfront, making restaurants, the marina and evening strolls easy. The room we’d grab is the Deluxe Double Room with Swimming Pool, which gives couples their own private pool right outside the room; there are also sea-view options with private Jacuzzis. Don’t expect acres of resort facilities – there’s a bar, breakfast and spa features rather than a giant communal pool complex. That actually suits us: explore Sarandë outside, then retreat behind your own door when you’ve had enough of the crowds. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - Hotel Miramare
    Vlora › Vlorë
Miramare is all about the view. Perched above the coast in Vlorë, around 500 metres from Liro Beach, its terraces and sea-facing rooms look straight across the deep blue water of the Albanian Riviera. There’s a Mediterranean restaurant and bar rather than a long list of resort facilities, which gives the place a more intimate feel. Pool lovers should book the aptly named Suite with private pool, where the water and sea view become the real stars of the room. We’d use Miramare as a stylish base for exploring Vlorë’s beaches – then make sure we were back on that terrace well before sunset. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - Hotel Villa Pascucci
Villa Pascucci is gloriously over the top – think Italian marble, frescoes, ornate ceilings and enough classical detailing to make a minimalist nervous. Hidden away from Durrës’ busy beachfront, it feels more like a private mansion than a seaside hotel, with two outdoor pools, tennis, a restaurant, wine cellar and an excellent spa with hammam and hydrotherapy. The showpiece Deluxe Suite adds a hot tub, spa bath and private rooftop pool with views towards the sea. We’d embrace the drama completely here: long dinner, bottle from the cellar, spa the next morning and absolutely no beige Scandinavian furniture in sight. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - Qeparo Napolon Complex
Qeparo Napolon Complex has none of the polished mega-resort feel of some newer Albanian hotels – and we rather like it for that. Built into the hillside above Qeparo Beach, its terraces tumble towards the Ionian Sea with mountains rising behind them. Selected family and Deluxe Suites have private plunge pools on large sea-view terraces, while there’s also a communal outdoor pool for everyone else. The on-site Napolon restaurant serves Greek, Italian and Mediterranean food, and the beach is only a couple of minutes away on foot. This is where we’d slow things right down: morning swim in Qeparo, lunch downstairs, then back upstairs for an afternoon in our own pool. Read more

  • Hotel with private pool - Cape of Rodon Resort, Green Village
    Durrës › Draç
This is one of the Albanian hotels we find most interesting. Cape of Rodon Resort spreads 48 contemporary villas across a green peninsula where wooded hills tumble towards the Adriatic, creating a much more secluded atmosphere than the resorts around Durrës. Each villa has its own courtyard and private pool, with some adding sky pools, hanging gardens and beautiful sea views. There’s also a spa, gym and Mediterranean dining at Tide Restaurant. We’d bring the family, close the villa gate and pretend the rest of Albania can wait a couple of days – this feels made for slow breakfasts and ridiculously long afternoons by the pool. Read more
