The Maldives’ original resort is still a brilliant choice – although today you’ll find it under its new name, Niva Kurumba Maldives. Its biggest practical advantage is obvious the moment you land: paradise is only around ten minutes by speedboat from Malé airport. Once there, lush gardens, soft beaches and an unusually good dining scene await, with seven restaurants and three bars. The Deluxe Pool Villas have secluded private pools and direct beach access, while larger Family Villas add their own pools too. First opened in 1972, this is a genuine piece of Maldivian tourism history that has learned plenty of new tricks.
