This is exactly the sort of small wine-country hotel we love discovering. Just outside historic Colonia del Sacramento, Comarca Las Liebres combines a 1920s country house, century-old trees, its own vineyard and a huge certified organic garden that feeds the excellent farm-to-table restaurant. The atmosphere is much closer to staying at a beautiful Uruguayan country home than checking into a resort. Casa de la Vendimia is particularly special for families or friends, with two bedrooms, a large garden and private swimming pool. Come hungry – the food, wine and slow countryside setting are at least as important as the room.
