Syntopia feels like summer camp for adults – if summer camp had cocktails, boho cabanas and considerably better food. Set near Rethymno in Adelianos Kampos, it revolves around lush landscaped pools, palm trees, music, relaxed dining and social spaces that make staying around the hotel half the fun. There’s a beach nearby and Rethymno is there whenever culture beats the sunbed. Some newer suites come with private outdoor jacuzzis, but there are no true private swimming pools in the current room line-up. We’d come for the atmosphere rather than seclusion: sunglasses on, cocktail ordered, plans officially cancelled.
